A portable litter vacuum has been bought by Wokingham Town Council to help Wokingham Litter Heroes.
This group picks up small items of litter, such as cigarette butts, to make parks and public spaces litter free, and is coordinated by Tony Lack. With the litter vacuum, the group hope to ensure the local area is as clean as possible.
Wokingham Litter Heroes and their recently formed partner organisation Wokingham Graffiti Avengers are both voluntary organisations which attempt to keep the town and the surrounding areas free from litter and graffiti.
Cllr Nick Campbell-White, chair of the Amenities Committee, said: “I am extremely pleased that we have been able to further support this excellent, hardworking group of volunteers. Wokingham Town Council has a long history of supporting their initiative and will continue to do all that we can to help them succeed in this mission.”
The Town Council said it is also discussing how to improve the standard of cleaning in the new Market Place with Wokingham Borough Council.
A spokesperson said: “We are adamant that standards will improve and all options to deliver on this will be considered.”
