A FAB four of local charities have been awarded their very own winter warmer.
Last week, representatives from Me2 Club, and Younger People With Dementia all picked up cheques for £2,500.
A third cheque for the same amount is to be shared between Wokingham town mayor’s charities of the year Wokingham Food Bank, The Link Visiting Scheme.
The money was raised from the proceeds of last year’s Winter Carnival, the first to be held in the new-look Market Place.
Wokingham Winter Carnival’s committee chair, Philip Mirfin said: “I am delighted that we have been able to support these really important local charities.
“We had a very successful and well-attended Winter Carnival last year and seeing the local community having a fun day out and the local charities benefiting is why we all get involved.”
The charities were represented by Mark Hainy, Director of Younger People with Dementia; Liz McDaniel, Fundraising Development Officer for Me2 Club and Wokingham Town Council Mayor Julian McGhee-Sumner who accepted on behalf of the Mayor’s Charities which this year are Wokingham Food Bank and The Link Visiting Scheme.
Now, the Winter Carnival committee is considering this year’s charities.
To qualify they must register and benefit residents living within Wokingham Town Council wards.
