A DONATION to a Woodley park has been a long time coming – four years in fact.
Last week, Beryl Wootton presented Woodley Town Council with a service tree that she has been cultivating since August 2015.
It has been presented to the church she attends, Christ Church, to commemorate the launch of the new Basingstoke and Reading Methodist Circuit (a cluster of 26 churches that work together).
Mrs Wootton has been nurturing the tree ever since and recently asked Woodley Town Council if they would like to plant it in Woodford Park for all to enjoy, not just her church.
“I would like to say thank you to the Council for providing the space for the tree in Woodford Park. Unfortunately, the church garden is too small and it needs the space to grow and flourish,” said Mrs Wootton.
The maple tree was planted on the Haddon Drive entrance to Woodford Park Leisure Centre by Woodley Town Mayor Cllr Sam Rahmouni, Mrs Wootton and fellow church members.
Cllr Rahmouni said: “I was delighted to attend the planting of this tree and we are grateful for the donation and look forward to watching it grow.”
