THE spirit of Christmas is coming to Woodley this weekend with the switch on of the Christmas lights and the Woodley and Earley Lions tree of light.
From 4.30pm on Saturday there will be a Christmas carol concert led by Woodley Concert Band accompanied by Reading Operatic Society and members of Woodley churches.
The lights will be switched on by winners of the annual primary schools contest to design a poster to promote Woodley’s festive events.
Woodley’s Town Centre Management team received 253 posters from local Primary Schools. All entries are on display at the Oakwood Centre and four winners were chosen.
- First prize went to Vivien Wan, age 10 from South Lake Primary School
- Second prize to Nina Lees, age 9 from Beechwood Primary
- Joint 3rd Prize to Lexie Kenny & John Lees, both age 7 from Beechwood Primary
The event will be followed by Woodley’s Christmas Extravaganza next Sunday (December 6) when entertainment and stalls will run throughout the day.
